Ensuring the milestone 10th edition is nothing short of spectacular, Mubadala World Tennis Championship has confirmed six of the world’s best players to its line-up. World #1 Rafael Nadal has been committed for some time, and he may now have to defend his title against Novak Djokovic, ranked 7th and with three MWTC wins to his name already. Joining the highly-recognisable names are Stan Wawrinka (no.9), Pablo Carreño Busta (no.11), Dominic Thiem (no.6) and Milos Raonic (no.12).
Djokovic, of Serbia, was announced to the roster in late October, and views the 2017 tournament as the perfect chance return to the game after an extended break. Having previously held the number one spot in the ATP world rankings for a total of 223 weeks, will be making his return for this first time since Wimbledon earlier this year.
Keen to get on the court again, he said: “I am extremely excited to return to Abu Dhabi for the fifth time and take part in the 10th edition of the Championship. It is a huge honour to take part in such a special tournament. The line-up is very strong as always and it will be the perfect way to make my comeback and begin the season. Abu Dhabi is an amazing place and this is going to be a great event for all of the fans.”
We’re waiting to see the match draw, but it is guaranteed that the clashes during the tournament will be nothing short of thrilling.
Rounding out the three-days of tennis excitement are an interactive village, player clinics, autograph signings and much more. These ancillary activities are free to attend.
