NDC SUPPORTS SPORTS THIS RAMADAN

REGISTRATION NOW OPEN FOR THE NDC RAMADAN BOWLING AND FOOTBALL TOURNAMENTS

During Ramadan, Zayed Sports City will once again host its popular bowling and football Tournaments, presented by National Drilling Company (NDC).

A popular fixture on the UAE sporting calendar, the NDC Ramadan Tournaments will see hundreds of amateur bowlers and footballers compete for a chance to win high-value cash prizes and the coveted 'Ramadan Cup'. Last year, more than 100 bowlers from 17 countries took part in the bowling tournament, and we expect this number to grow this year. More participants are also expected to take part in this year's Football Cup.

With new figures released this week reporting that 60 per cent of residents from the UAE and surrounding MENA region are suffering from obesity and its associated health issues, Zayed Sports City and NDC are encouraging UAE residents to keep healthy through sport this summer.

"The Ramadan Tournaments actively encourage the community to maintain their health and fitness levels and to keep active during Ramadan – a time when people often adapt their usual fitness regimes or drop them altogether," said Barry Bremner, General Manager at Zayed Sports City.

"Our Ramadan Tournaments are fun and don't feel like typical exercise. The events offer people the chance to engage in some light-hearted, healthy competition.

"Each year we are thrilled to see the continued dedication of our Ramadan bowlers and footballers, many of whom are aspiring future champions, and this year looks set to be bigger and better than ever."

Following a successful three-year partnership with Zayed Sports City, National Drilling Company of Abu Dhabi (NDC) has increased their support in 2014 and will now also sponsor the venue's Ramadan Football Cup for the first time.

As Zayed Sports City gears up to host the World Bowling Championships this December, bowlers this year look forward to testing their skills in a competitive, ‘game-like' environment. Further adding to the excitement in 2014, the tournaments will see competitors battle it out for a part of the combined prize pot of AED 185,000.

"Bowling and football enthusiasts look forward to these competitions year after year. The site buzzes with action and excitement into the wee hours for 30 straight days and at the end we have many new champions to speak of. These events also draw a fantastic pool of athletes from across the region and a passionate group of fans as we create champions at the UAE's best Ramadan sporting events."

The NDC Ramadan Bowling Tournament will be held between 24 June and 23 July 2014, at Sheikh Khalifa Bowling Centre. The seven-a-side amateur NDC Ramadan Football Cup will run from 29 June to 17 July 2014, between 10pm and 1am on weekdays.
