Zayed Sports City couldn't be more proud of Emirati figure skater Zahra Lari her accomplishments in the past month. Starting with her starring in a Nike commercial through to her becoming the UAE's first participant in the Asian Winter Games, Zahra has made a huge splash worldwide.
Famous for being the first person to skate internationally in a hijab, Zahra headlined many Japanese newspapers and managed to get people's attention on social media with her spectacular performance and results during the women's short programme at the figure skating competition in Sapporo.
Zahra, who recently joined Nike's family as a brand ambassador, is striving to be the first Emirati figure skater to represent the UAE in the Winter Olympics.
At the event she beat her own record and raised her highest points to date. This was fuelled by her landing both double axels in her free programme. Following the event, world renowned choreographer David Wilson and international skating star Johnny Weir both recognised her achievements with congratulations and words of support.
