Four tennis players from ZSC Academy’s High Performance Squad were accepted into the Daman Future Champions Programme, a selective group of teens who have been hand-picked to inspire others as the develop in their sport. First nominated by their coaches, the quartet sent in video applications which then met Daman’s high standards.
To kick-off the programme, the participants attended a dinner at Park Rotana where they met other students and were introduced to what will take place over the next 10 months. This includes media training, nutrition seminars and sports activities under mentorship of two-time Olympic gold medalist Dame Kelly Holmes and South African rugby star Thinus Delport.
The second activity of the programme was a sporting day led by the mentors. Dame Holmes’ workshop focused on proper running technique, something critical to most sports. Particularly of interest to the ZSC Academy members was her instruction on changing direction quickly, an important element of tennis. Delport taught the participants some basic rugby skills also. The teens also spoke to a camera and received some media tips, giving a baseline for improvements which are sure to take place over the coming months.
Congratulations to Jana Abdul Razzak, Casey Aurin, Roula Elmallah and Maria Karahalios on their acceptance into this programme!
