The Middle East's only official Darkness Into Light walk, a fixture in Ireland and held in over 80 locations around the world has exceeded goals in its first year. An event to share a message of hope to those living in the shadow of mental illness, the walk drew 250 people despite the early hour and holiday weekend. Arriving before sunrise, the participants shared encouragement and remembrance on the Banner of Hope and listened to messages of support from organiser Maria Kelly and the Irish Ambassador Patrick Hennessey, among others.
Following the address, walkers lit their torches and candles for the dual purpose of remembering loved ones and symbolising better days ahead. Dearbhladh Walsh, Abu Dhabi Rose (the person who will represent the city in the international pageant), cut the ribbon and led the crowd around the sit as day broke. Upon finishing the route, The Sweey M's serenaded the group in a truly uplifting and magical moment for the community.
