If wintertime makes you want to spend more time on the ice, Zayed Sports City Ice Rink offers a variety of opportunities for people of all ages and abilities. Regularly scheduled public sessions are fun for the whole family and those looking for skating with a bit more structure can take advantage of lessons from the rink’s highly qualified and experienced coaches.
Learn to Skate
Teaching a curriculum based on Ice Skating Institute of Asia (ISIA) principles, the Learn to Skate programme at Zayed Sports City Ice Rink is second to none. Hundreds of students have made their way through these classes and demand continues to grow.
Learn to Skate takes place over a four-week period, with a 30-minute lesson each week. Throughout the term, skaters participate in drills and games that provide a perfect balance between fun and structure. For each level, coaches follow a set curriculum, which covers skating technique and elements. Throughout the sessions, children will learn new skills, improve technique and have a great time.
Additionally, Zayed Sports City Ice Rink has recently launched a Learn to Skate option exclusively for adults. Following the same principles of the youth programme, while recognising the varied motivations of adult skaters, the adult programme is growing steadily. Enrolling people who want to learn a new skill, make new friends or feel comfortable taking their children on their ice, this new Learn to Skate option will help you develop into the skater you want to be.
Abu Dhabi Figure Skating Team (ADFST)
Figure skating has been a featured activity at Zayed Sports City for more than a decade and ADFST is the UAE’s premier group of figure skaters. Professional ice skating coaches help team members develop skills in preparation for local and international competitions through the year. The team also works together to perform in the annual ice show, a highlight of the season for team and community members alike. Members receive special benefits, including invitations to camps, clinics and competitions, access to courses and lots of skating opportunities, all whilst developing as athletes and individuals.
Skaters aged five and older who want to progress by perfecting jumps, spins, spirals and footwork are welcome to join the team. The group is open to men, women, boys and girls who want to get better at figure skating, with only minimal experience required to join.
Private and Group Lessons
Private and small group learning can provide great benefits to skaters. Tailored to your goals, personality and schedule, lessons provide intensive instruction for maximum benefit.
