The first month of 2014 ushered in a new year of Bowler of the Month, offering a fresh start to everyone who joins. Each month, bowlers compete for the title and a spot in the Bowler of the Year competition.

January welcomed 30 competitors who rolled in with great anticipation. Following qualifying rounds, Gene Ornejas was in the lead with a 235 average and 289 high game. He, along with 11 others, bowled six games before narrowing the field to three. Yousef Al Zaabi, Mohamed Al Marzouqi and Hareb Al Mansoui each earned their spots in the stepladder final.

In the first match, Hareb and Mohamed took their battle into the tenth frame with Mohamed’s 237 game besting the opponent. He then took on Yousef, knowing he would need to win two games in a row. After a solid start on both lanes, Yousef continued to bowl well, while Mohamed faltered, resulting in a final score of 213 to 190 in Yousef’s favour. His comment following the match was one of relief knowing that he secured a Bowler of the Year spot so early on.
